GUANGDA YANG
BARITONE

Guangda Yang is a baritone who specializes in Lieder, mélodies, oratorios, and lyric baritone roles in opera. He has performed Winterreise, Berlioz Les nuits d'été at the prestigious Shanghai Concert Hall (April and July 2024), and sang Schubert's three monumental song cycles Die schöne Müllerin, Winterreise and Schwanengesang within one week at the Peking University Centennial Hall (November 2024). He made his Chengdu debut in December 2024 and received raving reviews, praising his Winterreise recital as one of the most exciting vocal concerts in Chengdu in years.

In 2025, he plans to bring the song cycle Die schöne Magelone by Johannes Brahms in live performances with pianist Thomas Fleßenkämper to China and Germany, to the family of the legendary baritone Julius Stockhausen who premiered the work. He will also tackle the monumental Das Lied von der Erde by Gustav Mahler, as well as the classics Dichterliebe op.48 and Kerner Lieder op.35 by Robert Schumann.

Mr. Yang has been praised for his near-flawless German pronunciation, his deep understanding of poetry and music, and his ability to instantly captivate and move audiences.

In addition to Lieder, Mr. Yang was also praised for his portrayal of Malatesta in Don Pasquale (Peabody Conservatory). He was cast as the title role in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo at the 2020 Miami Music Festival. Currently, he is expanding his repertoire to include Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and Posa in Don Carlo.

Before pursuing singing as a profession, Guangda had studied Psychology in China, Educational Policy at Columbia University (MA). For a passion for classical music, he obtained a second Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.

Guangda Yang’s main voice teacher is Dr. Steven Rainbolt from Peabody Conservatory. He also draws inspiration from the advice of such luminaries as Wolfgang Brendel, Christian Gerhaher and Helmut Deutsch.
