GUANGDA YANG
BARITONE

Guangda Yang is a baritone specializing in Lieder, mélodies and lyric baritone roles in opera. He is known to bring out the essence of whatever music he sings, and never fails to move the audience on a deep level. He has performed Winterreise, Berlioz Les nuits d'été at the prestigious Shanghai Concert Hall (2024), and has been the only Chinese singer to perform Schubert's three monumental song cycles Die schöne Müllerin, Winterreise and Schwanengesang within one week at the Peking University Centennial Hall (2024). His Winterreise in Chengdu received raving reviews, citing it as one of the most exciting vocal recitals in Chengdu in years. His Die schöne Magelone was also critically acclaimed as THE vocal concert of 2025 in Chengdu.

Guangda has been praised for his precise German diction, his deep understanding of poetry and psychology in music. His interpretation of Winterreise was highly praised by artists such as Christian Gerhaher, Roger Vignoles, Helmut Deutsch and Martin Katz, whose encouragement becomes invaluable in his continued exploration of the art of Lieder.

In addition to Lieder, Guangda is equally passionate about opera. His big inspiration has always been Maria Callas, who showed him how to infuse one's heart, soul and mind into the colors of music, and how to sing to the very truth of music.

Before pursuing singing as a profession, Guangda had studied Psychology in China, Educational Policy at Columbia University (MA). For a passion for classical music, he pursued singing at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.
